For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
1 John 2:16‭-‬17 ESV
Christianity hasn’t changed. It hasn’t been modernized and there is no new version to be downloaded from the play store, app store or windows store. The truth is that, Christianity isn’t an app that everyone can download or use. It is meant for only people who are willing to and can bear the cost of sacrifices and pure living associated with being Christian. God’s standards haven’t changed and for everyone who professes Christ, you should be aware that the Christian life is more than confession or affiliation, it is commitment at the core and the desire to stay pure and stick to God through all the changing scenes of life, in trouble and in joy.

I see more Christians watching “sextapes” in the name of “I know the guy”, ” the girl was in my class” and all the other flimsy excuses they can give, than I’ve ever heard of in the history of Christianity. Last time I checked, God through Paul asked us to flee youthful lust, He didn’t ask us to indulge it because we know the people involved in the act. I think sometimes we forget that, our standard in the new covenant is that we don’t need to indulge in an act to compromise our purity. Jesus said that just lusting after a woman is tantamount to committing adultery. So for us Christians now, it’s not about the lack of opportunity to carry out our desires, but rather our willingness to preserve our purity by virtue of keeping our thoughts aligned to the word of God. Bearing in mind that, we can only see God and remain in His presence when pure. Its not cool to engage your mind in active desecrating acts. The bible admonishes us to keep our hearts with all diligence for out of it flows the issues of life. Your body still belongs to God and His Holy Spirit needs to dwell in you, why would you want to exchange His presence for a fleeting second of pleasure which will leave you devoid of His presence and hollow?
So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
2 Timothy 2:22 ESV
These days, its as though speaking crass and cussing are the new “signs and wonders” that follow Christians. We speak harshly to people, insult their intelligence, look down on them through our speech, etc. We seem to have forgotten about speaking the truth in love, about letting our words be filled with salt to edify our listeners. We’ve closed our minds to “let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouths…”. Its now normal for Christians who minister in music, dance, spoken word etc to listen to songs that insult others and churn out senseless words laden with heavy beats. You listen to this all day and still want to experience God’s power? You must be joking.  When you play subway surfers and decide to befriend the one chasing you instead of fleeing do you ever win the game? So why dabble with your enemy when as a soldier you’re supposed to be on guard, seeing that this enemy you war against is as sleek and fancy as it can get?
The kind of things you store in your heart determines the kinds of things you speak out loud. If what’s coming out of your mouth on daily basis is trash, watch your closet life and the things you allow to influence you. The fact that you minister on Sundays or on big stages and experience a move of God doesn’t mean you’re still connected. God’s gifts are without repentance and he wouldn’t deny another man his miracle because the vessel has messed up. He’ll still borrow you as a vessel so that man can be blessed. Don’t be deceived, God’s standards on speech and living hasn’t changed. Pursue righteousness in deeds, thoughts and words. Stay on guard for your enemy the devil is roaring like a lion, seeking whom he may devour.
I usually can’t wrap my mind around the number of Christians who visit clubs and all sorts of secular shows, doing all sorts of things and yet calling themselves Christian.  Let’s look at this carefully, if Christ is enough for you, God is the owner of all things on earth, what is it you need to cheer yourself up that He won’t freely give unto you? Oh you want fun huh? What fun did you think the apostles of old were having that ensured you could still get the word of God today? Their sort of fun was probably giving themselves up to be killed for the sake of the gospel and yet you go around indulging yourself in all the world does and expect to make impact in this fallen world? Seriously? Who you are as a Christian makes no difference to the unbeliever because you do the same things he does and probably even worse. Maybe you don’t get the whole differentiation thing, the integration of Christians into the world isn’t for us to become like them but that we show them the way, the truth and the life. Instead of the isosceles triangle which has both sides equal, we are the hypotenuse in the 90° triangle that connects the fallen opposite(world) to the ever upright adjacent(God) who has always been close to the world yet they know him not. We aren’t supposed to be a reflection of the world, we are supposed to be the rays that deflects from the straight line which is the normal — the way of the world: we are the refraction. For no one who is a friend of the world remains a friend of God. Stop being normal, become the pivot that holds the scale allowing the world to measure themselves against Christ and finding how short they fall, crawl to him for forgiveness and restoration.
By their fruits, you shall know them. [Matt 7:16] I see more Christians exhibiting envy, wickedness, sensuality, sexual immorality and the list goes on. Its as though the fruits of the Spirit suddenly changed. Maybe like an evolution happened with a big bang that suddenly switched God’s words to what man wants to do as a Christian. I don’t ever remember seeing any patient who was rather diagnosing himself and prescribing drugs for himself when he has gone to the hospital. The bible says that live in the Spirit always and you shall not fulfill the desires of the flesh.  We as children of God and Christians can only bear fruit when we abide consistently in God. satan is the god of imitation and reversal. He takes every good thing God does and changes the meaning and focus. Unfortunately too, he gets most Christians to buy into his lies thinking he’s a genius. But please!!! he knows nada. He’s just like the child who traces the Ghana map into his assignment book instead of drawing it himself. He may make envy look cool, give it a fancy name like competition or fashion or something you’d never realize has his handwriting all over. As you subtly tune in often to his station, he destroys the beautiful seeds God has planted in you, and before you’re aware, the fruits you’re bearing are far from being of the Spirit and are just of the flesh. You shouldn’t forget that the tree that doesn’t bear fruit, will be cut down and cast into the fire!
The conclusion of the matter is that, you and I can live this Christian life. Not because we are strong and flawless, but because “all things pertaining to life and godliness has been made available to us”. Stop living a double life, stop pleasing yourself and other people. Focus on pleasing God, cause after all is said and done, He’s the one that matters the most and He’s the one we’ll be rendering account to. Deny yourself, pick up your cross and be a committed soldier, no more confusing yourself with civilians. Those days are over now. Take this Jesus thing as seriously as Christ took you when he died on the cross for you. May God strengthen us and provide us with the bravado and vim we need to stick with Him through it all. God bless you for reading!

  1. I love the triangle analogy…it’s deep. Truth is we have more Christians living double lives and thinking it’s no big deal because they still “feel” the presence of God.

What are your thoughts?
