How Do You Treat God?

Often times, we seem to fear men and their laws more than we fear God. We live in constant fear of what man can do to our physical bodies or mental fantasies. Forgetting that God has the power to destroy our entirety and not just our physical bodies.

I have observed with much sadness how young and old people who label themselves Christians tend to treat God, as compared to their bosses or businesses. There is a fear of being fired, losing business or clients that seems to drive young and old, educated and illiterate Christians to choose certain paths that don’t really glorify God.

A supposed Christian would wear a suit and tie to work even when the temperature is hotter than an oven. The lady will wear the required neck high dress with 70-inch heels if called for.  For fear of being queried, you adhere to these standards without as much as raising an eyebrow. The same person would skate through traffic if need be to get to work on time. But you are lackadaisical when approaching the church, even though you are fully aware of your lateness.

In an end of year party that has music and behavior that least glorifies or worships God, and closes way beyond midnight, you stay till you help the last person clean up, just to avoid queries. When we then put you this same person in an evening church service you made the sorry mistake to attend, despite your tiredness and have the pastor receive a closing revelation and close just 20 more minutes after 7, you’d be complaining of how important your time is and how the pastor likes closing late.

Let the pastor comment about your dressing and ask you to dress more properly and the pastor would be tampering with your rights to expressive dressing. One that is often trampled upon often at your workplace, mind you.

My heart breaks when I see Christians trying to be cool and having all the current so-called hiplife, reggae, cool, hip hop etc. music. Often forgetting that every system in this world and its prerequisites are programmed against God’s will and judgments.

When the Bible said friendship with the world is enmity with God, it was no joke. It is an actual thing that can happen to you and me. It is our most potent temptation of late. You can’t do things just because everyone else is doing it or doesn’t mind or thinks it’s normal. If you’ve really committed your life to God and are in it for the long haul, then there’s definitely someone who minds and that’s God.

I won’t sugarcoat my words and make you think it’s okay to do some things at the expense of others. Yes, God wants you to prosper and your soul be in good health. But He’s not gonna do that at the expense of the relationship He wants to build with you and the impact He wants to create with you. He wouldn’t have you honor your boss and disrespect Him, His chosen administrators and His house. Neither would He endorse you promoting yourself or ministry whilst relegating Him to the background!

It’s not okay to listen to any kind of music just because it tells your story.  Are you your object of worship?  The fact that the music tells of your suffering or your hustle and all, doesn’t mean it will edify you. How different are you from the idol worshippers of old if you subscribe to music just because it talks about you? God is God, and there’s nothing that can replace Him. He hasn’t changed over the years to accept certain actions, words, and temperaments. He said He’s the same yesterday, today and forever more.

If you claim to be a Christian and you are in it because you love God and want to grow with Him in a fruitful relationship, then you can’t live anyhow you want. You have to stop making excuses for your actions. Take God seriously, make Him your priority and He’d give you the wisdom to tackle the issues that so easily beset you. Stop living in fear of the Query Letter that your job, society or even church would give you. Learn and love God for yourself. Live and run this race with and for  Him. Let Him endorse you as having finished what He sent you to do.

Let’s stop the double standards. The only person we’re deceiving here is ourselves. Cause God sees all we do, think or even imagine. Stay true to God and let Him do with you what He wants to do. Don’t go ahead of yourself, soak in yourself too deep and take pride in the world’s systems over God’s sovereign grace reign.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, forgive me for replacing you with idols of self, money and people approval. I repent of such behaviors and mindsets. I receive grace to stay in you and grow, placing you above all else. In Jesus name, Amen.
